We are the Coalition for the El Hiblu 3, a coalition of groups and individuals in Malta and beyond. We demand that the Maltese authorities drop the charges against Abdalla, Amara, and Kader.

Known as the El Hiblu 3, Amara, Abdalla, and Kader arrived in Malta in 2019. At sea, they had helped avert an illegal pushback to Libya by acting as translators and mediators. They were only 15, 16, and 19 years old. With no evidence, the Maltese authorities cast them as criminals, imprisoning them in Malta’s maximum security adult prison. Released on bail after eight months, they continue to struggle for their freedom and for justice in the face of baseless charges and a dysfunctional legal process.

Together with Abdalla, Amara, and Kader, the Coalition insists on the right to resist pushbacks and to seek refuge. We celebrate the El Hiblu 3 as defenders of human rights and demand that the charges against them be dropped.
