On 26-27 March 2022, we organised a Free the El Hiblu 3 conference in Valletta on the third anniversary of the arrival of the El Hiblu tanker in Malta. More than 80 participants came together from local and transnational organisations. In a series of presentations and speeches the representatives expressed their solidarity with Abdalla, Amara, and Kader, who themselves made impressive statements. In subsequent workshop sessions, strategies were discussed for our collective struggles against the criminalization of migrants and for solidarity work with those affected.

In early 2020, we collected testimonies of nine of the 108 survivors, who shared their experiences of the situation on the El Hiblu 1 oil tanker.
